Target Information
MAP3K5 (ASK1) is a serine/threonine kinase abundantly expressed in human heart and pancreas, activated by various extracellular stimuli such as cytokines, growth factors, and environmental stresses. ASK1 (Apoptosis Signal-Regulating Kinase 1) activates MAPKKs MKK4 and MKK6, which in turn activate JNK and p38 MAP kinases, respectively. Activation occurs via TNFR and Fas pathways through TRAF family proteins and Daxx. Overexpression induces apoptosis, while inactive ASK1 inhibits TNF-α-induced apoptosis. ASK1 is expressed in a variety of human and mouse tissues.
