Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain. The alpha V subunit forms disulfide-linked heavy and light chains that associate with multiple beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, β8) to form various integrins. Among these, the αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin receptor (VNR), is well studied for its role in cell adhesion and signal transduction. Integrin β3 is also found with the αIIb chain in platelets and participates in cell adhesion and surface-mediated signaling.
