Target Information
CDCA8 is a component of the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), which is essential for the stability of the bipolar mitotic spindle. The CPC, including Survivin, CDCA8, INCENP, and Aurora-B, plays a crucial role during mitosis and cell division.
CDCA8 interacts with Aurora-B, INCENP, and Survivin, increasing during the G2/M phase and decreasing after M phase exit. It is cell cycle regulated—down-regulated by p53/Rb signaling and up-regulated in various cancers.
Inactivation of CDCA8 in Drosophila cells causes polyploidy, delayed mitosis, and abnormal tissue development, highlighting its importance in cell proliferation. It is also essential for early embryonic development, and its aberrant expression correlates with poor prognosis in gastric cancer.
