Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays an important role in lipid metabolism and is a component of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, and is abundant in interstitial fluids, where it facilitates cholesterol transport between cells. Apo E is also essential for the formation of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The APOE gene is located on chromosome 19q13.2.
