Target Information

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are proteins that bind directly to nascent RNA polymerase II transcripts and play a key role in transcript-specific packaging and alternative splicing of pre-mRNAs.
The M1–M4 proteins form a cluster of four abundant hnRNPs that act as pre-mRNA binding proteins in vivo and bind strongly to poly(G) and poly(U) RNA homopolymers in vitro.
These proteins belong to the ribonucleoprotein consensus sequence family and share similarity with a hypothetical RNA-binding protein from Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
They contain a unique hexapeptide-repeat region rich in methionine and arginine residues (MR repeat motif), resembling a repeat found in the 64 kDa subunit of cleavage stimulation factor involved in 3′-end maturation of pre-mRNAs.
Proteins immunologically related to M exist across diverse eukaryotes from human to yeast.
