Target Information
The constitutive transport element (CTE) of type D retroviruses serves as a nuclear export signal for unspliced viral RNAs. TAP (also known as NXF1) mediates the export of CTE-containing simian type D retroviral RNAs through direct binding to the CTE. TAP is part of a recognized mRNA export pathway and belongs to the multigene family of NXF proteins. NXF proteins are evolutionarily conserved and characterized by a leucine-rich-repeat (LRR) domain followed by a Nuclear Transport Factor 2 (NTF2)-like domain.
