Family with sequence similarity 19 member A5, C-C motif chemokine like (FAM19A5) Homo sapiens.
This gene belongs to the TAFA family, composed of five homologous genes encoding small secreted proteins. These proteins contain conserved cysteine residues at fixed positions and are distantly related to MIP-1α, a member of the CC-chemokine family. The TAFA proteins are predominantly expressed in specific brain regions and are believed to function as brain-specific chemokines or neurokines that regulate immune and nervous cell activity.
