Background
Protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA, member 1 (PTP4A1) is a member of a small class of prenylated protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) that contain a PTP domain and a characteristic C-terminal prenylation motif. The encoded protein functions as a cell signaling molecule regulating processes such as cell proliferation and migration. It may also play a role in cancer development and metastasis. Although primarily a nuclear protein, it can associate with the plasma membrane via its prenylation motif. Pseudogenes related to this gene are located on chromosomes 1, 2, 5, 7, 11, and X.
