Background
- Function: May act as an inhibitor of TGF-beta signaling.
- Post-translational modification (PTM): N-glycosylated.
- Similarity: Contains 1 EGF-like domain, 1 fibronectin type-III domain, and 11 LRR (leucine-rich) repeats.
- Subunit: Interacts with TGFB1, TGFB2, and TGFB3.
- Tissue specificity: Expressed at highest levels in aorta, intermediate levels in kidney and placenta, and lowest levels in brain, heart, liver, lung, and skeletal muscle. Within the aorta, the strongest expression is found in the tunica media of the proximal ascending aorta, descending thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, and coronary arteries. Within the kidney, expression is found in the interstitial cells.
