Background
This gene encodes a member of the von Willebrand factor A domain-containing protein family. These proteins are involved in the formation of filamentous networks in the extracellular matrices of various tissues. MATN3 is present in the cartilage extracellular matrix and plays a role in cartilage and bone development and homeostasis. Mutations in this gene result in multiple epiphyseal dysplasia.
