Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. While all hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. hnRNP K is located in the nucleoplasm and contains three KH domains that bind RNAs, showing a strong preference for poly(C). It may also play a role in cell cycle progression. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants exist for this gene.
