Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells.
It is recruited during the maturation of the tight junction complex rather than acting as a structural component.
Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and xenografts, while normal breast tissue shows much lower expression.
It binds to lung vasculature, a common site of breast cancer metastasis, through a C-terminal extracellular segment.
Blocking this domain with antibodies or inhibiting metadherin via siRNA has been reported to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
