Target Information
CHCHD6 is a member of a family of proteins containing a conserved (coiled coil 1)-(helix 1)-(coiled coil 2)-(helix 2) domain. It forms a complex with mitochondrial proteins such as mitofilin, SAM50, metaxins 1 and 2, and CHCHD3. Knockdown of CHCHD6 causes severe defects in mitochondrial cristae morphology, reduces cell growth, ATP production, and oxygen consumption. Decreased CHCHD6 also reduces mitofilin levels, suggesting coordinated regulation. CHCHD6 knockdown in cancer cells increases sensitivity to genotoxic anticancer drugs, indicating a potential therapeutic target.
