Target Information
This gene encodes a nuclear protein with similarity to the Drosophila male-specific lethal-3 gene. The drosophila protein plays a critical role in dosage compensation, equalizing X-linked gene expression between sexes. The human MSL3 protein is thought to function similarly in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation. This gene undergoes X inactivation and produces four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
