Target Information
CD33 is a transmembrane protein belonging to the sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin (Siglec) family. It contains immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs) that recruit SHP-1 and SHP-2 phosphatases for signaling and receptor regulation. CD33 is expressed on myelomonocytic lineage cells, including granulocyte and macrophage precursors, but not on pluripotent stem cells. It serves as a marker for peripheral monocytes and is a therapeutic target for acute myeloid leukemia. CD33 also aids in distinguishing myelogenous leukemia cells from lymphoid or erythroid leukemias. Dysfunctions are associated with gallbladder lymphoma and extracutaneous mastocytoma.
