Target Information
Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that may persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns. Each AHP component is mediated by distinct calcium-activated potassium channels. The KCNN1 protein contributes to the slow component of synaptic AHP, regulating neuronal excitability. It forms a voltage-independent calcium-activated channel with calmodulin-binding subunits and belongs to the KCNN family of potassium channels.
