Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPS5 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S7P family of ribosomal proteins. It is located in the cytoplasm.
Variable expression of this gene has been observed in colorectal cancers compared to adjacent normal tissues, though no correlation between expression level and disease severity has been found.
As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes of RPS5 are dispersed throughout the genome.
