Target Information
Napsin A (also known as Napsin 1) is an aspartic protease primarily expressed in the lung, and also found in the kidney and metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in pulmonary and renal tissues, but its regulation changes during carcinogenesis. Napsin evaluation is useful for identifying various cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. When combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, Napsin serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma classification. It is also associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
