SERPINB6 단백질은 serpin 초과가족 및 ovalbumin-serpin 아과에 속합니다. 처음에는 태반 트롬빈 억제제로 발견되었으며, 생쥐 상동체는 내이의 모발세포에서 발현됩니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 비증후성 진행성 난청과 관련이 있으며, 스트레스 시 리소좀 내용물 누출로부터 세포를 보호하는 역할을 합니다. 또한 대체 스플라이싱된 전사 변이가 보고되었습니다.
