Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and is a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is produced as a single-chain precursor that is cleaved into light and heavy chains, forming a mature tetramer composed of two light and two heavy chains. MPO catalyzes the formation of hypohalous acids, essential for the microbicidal activity of neutrophils. Diseases associated with MPO include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
