Target Information
Na⁺/H⁺ exchangers (NHE-1–6) are integral membrane proteins expressed in most mammalian tissues, regulating intracellular pH and cell volume.
These antiporters mediate secondary active extrusion of hydrogen ions (H⁺) in exchange for extracellular sodium ions (Na⁺).
Except for NHE-1, which is ubiquitously expressed, NHE isoforms 2–6 show distinct tissue- and cell type-dependent expression and are inhibited by amiloride analogs.
