Target Information
SMCHD1 is required for maintenance of X inactivation in females and hypermethylation of CpG islands associated with the inactive X chromosome. It participates in a pathway that mediates slow methylation of a subset of CpG islands and requires the de novo methyltransferase DNMT3B. It is also essential for DUX4 silencing in somatic cells.
