FGD5는 Ras-like family의 Rho- 및 Rac 단백질 중 하나인 CDC42를 활성화시키며, 결합된 GDP를 자유 GTP로 교환하는 역할을 합니다.
VEGF에 의해 유도되는 CDC42 활성화를 매개하며, 혈관 내피세포에서 VEGF의 혈관신생 관련 작용(망 형성, 방향성 이동, 증식 등)을 조절할 수 있습니다.
또한 세포골격(actin cytoskeleton) 및 세포 형태 조절에도 관여할 수 있습니다.
