This antibody detects endogenous levels of total RAB8A protein.

Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the RAS superfamily, which includes small GTP/GDP-binding proteins of approximately 200 amino acids. RAS-related proteins of the RAB/YPT family are involved in protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus and plasma membrane.
This protein shares 97%, 96%, and 51% similarity with dog RAB8, mouse MEL, and mouse YPT1 proteins, respectively, and contains four GTP/GDP-binding sites typical of RAS proteins.
The effector-binding site is similar to that of RAB/YPT proteins, but this protein also contains a C-terminal CAAX motif characteristic of many RAS family members, absent in YPT1 and most RAB proteins.
Although this gene was isolated as a transforming gene from a melanoma cell line, no direct linkage with malignant melanoma has been demonstrated. It is located 800 kb distal to MY09B on chromosome 19p13.1.
