Target Information
ATG10 is involved in autophagy, a process for the bulk degradation of cytosolic compartments by lysosomes/vacuoles. The formation of autophagosomes involves dynamic membrane rearrangement requiring two ubiquitin-like modifications: the conjugation of APG12p and the modification of soluble MAP-LC3 to a membrane-bound form.
APG10 functions as an E2-like enzyme essential for autophagosome formation, participating in ATG12–ATG5 conjugation and MAP-LC3 (MAP1LC3A) modification. The human APG10L gene is located on chromosome 5q14.2 and is ubiquitously expressed.
