Target Information
The ATP1A1 gene encodes a protein belonging to the family of P-type cation transport ATPases, specifically the Na⁺/K⁺-ATPases. This integral membrane protein maintains electrochemical gradients of sodium and potassium ions across the plasma membrane, essential for osmoregulation, sodium-coupled transport of various molecules, and electrical excitability in nerve and muscle cells.
Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase consists of two subunits: a large catalytic alpha subunit and a smaller glycoprotein beta subunit. The alpha 1 subunit is encoded by ATP1A1, with multiple transcript variants producing different isoforms.
