Target Information
Saraf encodes a protein that negatively regulates store-operated Ca(2+) entry (SOCE), protecting cells from Ca(2+) overfilling. In response to cytosolic Ca(2+) elevation after endoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+) refilling, Saraf promotes slow inactivation of STIM-dependent SOCE activity, possibly by facilitating de-oligomerization of STIM to efficiently turn off ORAI channels when ER Ca(2+) levels are sufficient, preventing cellular Ca(2+) overload.
