Target Information
Alkaline phosphatase is a homodimeric enzyme (86 kDa) containing two zinc atoms per monomer that are essential for its catalytic activity. It is optimally active in alkaline pH environments and is found in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The enzyme plays a role in liver metabolism and skeletal development in mammals, acts as a source of inorganic phosphate in bacteria, and is useful for studying membrane protein sorting in yeast.
