Target Information
The DAXX gene encodes a multifunctional protein localized in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It interacts with proteins such as apoptosis antigen Fas, centromere protein C, and transcription factor E26 oncogene homolog 1. In the nucleus, DAXX acts as a transcription repressor that binds to sumoylated transcription factors, with repression modulated by sequestration into nuclear bodies or nucleoli. It associates with centromeres during G2 phase and may regulate apoptosis in the cytoplasm. Subcellular localization and function are influenced by post-translational modifications including sumoylation, phosphorylation, and polyubiquitination. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
