Target Information
Casein kinase II (CK2) is a protein serine/threonine kinase present in all eukaryotic cells, indicating fundamental cellular functions. The holoenzyme forms a tetramer of two alpha or alpha-prime catalytic subunits and two beta regulatory subunits.
CK2 phosphorylates key intracellular signaling proteins involved in tumor suppression (p53, PTEN) and tumorigenesis (myc, jun, NF-kappaB). It also influences Wnt signaling via beta-catenin phosphorylation and PI3K signaling via Akt phosphorylation.
