Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally to modulate lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG has been shown to reduce HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency increases HDL levels in animal models. LIPG exhibits phospholipase activity and plays roles in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. As a member of the TG lipase family, it contains a characteristic lid region conferring substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in dietary fat digestion, and binds to heparin.
