Target Information
This gene belongs to the semaphorin family and encodes a protein with an Ig-like C2-type domain, a PSI domain, and a Sema domain. This secreted protein can act as a chemorepulsive agent inhibiting axonal outgrowth or as a chemoattractive agent stimulating apical dendrite growth. It plays a vital role in normal neuronal pattern development. Increased expression is associated with schizophrenia and observed in various human tumor cell lines. Aberrant release is linked to Alzheimer’s disease progression.
