Target Information

Podocalyxin-like protein 2 (PODXL2) is a CD34 family member expressed by podocytes, vascular endothelium, mesothelium, and a subset of hematopoietic progenitors. It is a major sialoprotein in the glycocalyx of glomerular podocytes. While its role in leukemic blasts remains unclear, PODXL2 is considered a potential prostate cancer tumor aggressiveness gene. It complements CD34 as a useful surface marker for hemangioblasts — common precursors of hematopoietic and endothelial cells.
