Target Information
AQP0 is the most abundant endogenous protein in the plasma membrane of lens fiber cells, functioning as a water pore and contributing to fiber-fiber adhesion, crucial for lens structure and organization.
It contains an additional pore constriction unique among aquaporins, possibly responsible for pore gating.
The C-terminal domain undergoes extensive post-translational modifications, including truncations during lens aging, potentially linked to cataract development.
