Target Information
Aquaporin-8 (AQP8) is a water channel protein encoded by the AQP8 gene in humans.
Aquaporins are small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0).
AQP8 mRNA is found in the pancreas and colon, but not in other tissues. It forms a water-specific, mercury-sensitive channel, and is not permeable to glycerol or urea. Expression is limited to pancreas and colon.
