Target Information
Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL) is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor that downregulates ectodermal gene expression within the mesoderm and contributes to mesoderm and neural crest formation.
SNAI1 plays a key role in tumor invasion through E-cadherin down-regulation and induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
In human breast cancer, SNAI1 and/or its homolog SNAI2 (Slug) are associated with E-cadherin repression, metastasis, tumor recurrence, and poor prognosis.
Snail 1 protein expression in stroma may serve as a putative prognostic marker for colon tumors.
