Target Information
In mammals, G protein α, β, and γ polypeptides are encoded by at least 16, 4, and 7 genes, respectively. Most studies have focused on the α subunits due to their GTP binding and hydrolysis activity and their regulation of key effectors. However, βγ subunits also play an important regulatory role. Different G protein complexes expressed across tissues include structurally distinct members of γ, α, and β subunits, and preferential associations among these subunits contribute to G protein functional diversity.
