Target Information
ECP (Eosinophil Cationic Protein), also known as RNS3 or RNASE3 (ribonuclease, RNase A family, 3), is a 160-amino-acid potent cytotoxic secretory protein belonging to the pancreatic ribonuclease family. ECP localizes to the granule matrix of eosinophils and participates in immune responses. It acts as a cytotoxin, neurotoxin, and helminthotoxin secreted by activated human eosinophils, exhibiting anti-parasitic, antibacterial, and ribonucleolytic activities. Elevated ECP levels are associated with eosinophilic inflammation, asthma, and allergic diseases. It is also implicated in neurotoxic effects such as the Gordon phenomenon, characterized by ataxia, muscular rigidity, paralysis, and tremor.
