Target Information
SMUBP2 is a 5′ to 3′ helicase that unwinds RNA and DNA duplexes in an ATP-dependent manner. It acts as a transcription regulator and is required for the transcriptional activation of the flounder liver-type antifreeze protein gene. It binds specifically to enhancer element B of the flounder antifreeze protein gene intron and to the insulin II gene RIPE3B enhancer region. SMUBP2 may also be involved in translation and binds to 5′-phosphorylated single-stranded guanine-rich sequences related to the immunoglobulin mu chain switch region, preferentially recognizing the 5′-GGGCT-3′ motif. It interacts with tRNA-Tyr and stimulates transcription of the human neurotropic virus JCV.
