Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits. Two rings are formed by 7 alpha subunits and two by 7 beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome processes class I MHC peptides.
The PSMB9 gene encodes a member of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, representing a 20S core beta subunit located in the class II region of the MHC. Proteolytic processing is required to produce a mature subunit.
