Importin-4는 인간에서 IPO4 유전자로 암호화되는 단백질로, 핵 단백질 수송 과정에서 핵 수송 수용체로 작용합니다.
NLS(nuclear localization signals)를 인식하여 cargo 단백질을 핵공복합체(NPC)에 도킹시키며, Ran 의존적 에너지 메커니즘을 통해 핵 내로 이동합니다.
핵 내에서는 Ran이 Importin에 결합하여 복합체를 해체하고, Importin은 GTP 가수분해에 의해 세포질로 재수출됩니다.
