Target Information

SAP90/PSD-95-associated protein 3 (SAPAP3, also known as DLGAP3) is part of a protein family that interacts with PSD-95/SAP90, a membrane-associated guanylate kinase localized at the postsynaptic density (PSD) in neuronal cells.
SAPAP3 functions as an adaptor protein interacting with various synaptic scaffolding, cytoskeletal, and signaling proteins such as FAK and PYK2.
Both SAPAP3 protein and mRNA are localized to dendrites, while SAPAP1, -2, and -4 mRNAs are mainly found in cell bodies.
Studies suggest SAPAP3 may be involved in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); mice lacking SAPAP3 show OCD-like behaviors that can be rescued by selective expression of SAPAP3 in the striatum.
At least two isoforms of SAPAP3 are known.
