Target Information
Chromosome 6 accounts for nearly 6% of the human genome and contains approximately 1,200 genes within 170 million base pairs. Deletion of part of the q arm of chromosome 6 is linked to early-onset intestinal cancer, suggesting a cancer susceptibility locus. Chromosome 6 also includes genes associated with porphyria cutanea tarda (via HFE), Parkinson’s disease (PARK2), and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins that influence immune response and rheumatic disease predisposition. Additional conditions connected to chromosome 6 include Stickler syndrome, 21-hydroxylase deficiency, maple syrup urine disease, and bipolar disorder susceptibility.
