Target Information

DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in various cellular processes that alter RNA secondary structure, including translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
DDX50 is a DEAD box enzyme possibly involved in ribosomal RNA synthesis or processing. DDX50 and DDX21 (RH-II/GuA) have similar genomic structures and are tandemly oriented on chromosome 10, suggesting gene duplication during evolution. The DDX50 gene has pseudogenes on chromosomes 2, 3, and 4. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants, though only one full-length variant is defined.
