Target Information
The HOXD8 gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes, which encode conserved transcription factors essential for morphogenesis in multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four homeobox gene clusters—HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD—each located on different chromosomes. The HOXD cluster on chromosome 2 consists of several genes arranged in tandem. Deletions affecting this cluster are associated with severe limb and genital abnormalities. Beyond embryogenesis, HOXD8 may also play a role in adult urogenital tract function.
