Target Information
It has been hypothesized that the BAG-5 protein induces the death of nigral neurons through its predicted interaction with hsp70, leading to increased protein aggregation and cell death via disinhibition of hsp70’s anti-apoptotic function. BAG-5 may play an important role in neuronal death mechanisms and could act as a modulator of the hsp70/hsp40 chaperone axis. It may also coordinate localization or modulation of other BAG-containing proteins through BAG–BAG heterodimerization.
