Target Information
TACC1 is located on the 8p11 chromosomal region, amplified in approximately 15% of breast tumor samples. The short arm of chromosome 8 also contains FGFR1, whose expression is enhanced in most breast cancers. Members of the TACC family (TACC1, TACC2, TACC3) map closely to FGFR genes (FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3) on chromosomes 4, 8, and 10. Due to their phylogenetic relationship, TACC and FGFR are thought to play similar roles in cell growth and differentiation. TACC1 contains a conserved C-terminal region similar to Drosophila D-TACC, which is necessary for normal spindle function. Mammalian TACC proteins interact with centrosomes and microtubules similarly.
