The monoclonal antibody HM47 recognizes the cytoplasmic domain of CD79a (mb-1), a 47 kDa membrane glycoprotein that associates with CD79b to form the heterodimeric B cell receptor (BCR).
This receptor mediates B cell signaling, leading to activation, apoptosis, or anergy. CD79a is expressed from the earliest pre-B cell stage to plasma cells and serves as a reliable marker for B cells, including B cell neoplasms and some non-B cell malignancies such as AML.

• Epitope: Typically amino acids 208–222 in human CD79a

Target Information

CD79a forms a disulphide-linked heterodimer with CD79b (B29), functioning as part of the B lymphocyte antigen receptor complex. It appears from the pre-B cell stage and persists until the plasma cell stage, where it is found intracellularly.

CD79a is present in most acute leukemias of precursor B cell type, B cell lines, B cell lymphomas, and some myelomas, but absent in myeloid or T cell lines.
Diseases associated with CD79a include Agammaglobulinemia 3 and Agammaglobulinemia, Non-Bruton type.
