Target Information
The GPX2 gene encodes a selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase, a member of the glutathione peroxidase family. It is one of two isoenzymes responsible for most of the glutathione-dependent hydrogen peroxide-reducing activity in the gastrointestinal epithelium.
Knockout mouse studies indicate that GPX2 mRNA expression responds to luminal microflora, suggesting its role in preventing GI tract inflammation.
