Target Information

Mitochondrial ATP synthase catalyzes ATP synthesis utilizing an electrochemical gradient of protons across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation. It consists of two linked complexes:

• F1 complex: soluble catalytic core composed of 5 subunits (α, β, γ, δ, ε) with a ratio of 3α, 3β, and one of each remaining.
• F0 complex: membrane-spanning proton channel with nine subunits (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, F6, and 8).

This gene encodes the F6 subunit of the F0 complex, required for F1 and F0 interactions. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
